Week one at Drexel university was full of surprises and learning. I had never thought that settling into Drexel's lifestyle, for an international student like me, would be so easy. The day i moved in (Thursday 18th) i was nervous to see my dorm room as i had been told that our hall (Kelly Hall) was the oldest and worst hall out of the rest. But to my surprise the case was not so.
So any ways, coming back to the social activities, i attended two social events during this week. On the second night in my dorm, me and some of my friends met in my room and JAMMED!! We rocked the tunes of Blink 182, Sum 41, 3 Doors Down, Nickelback etc etc. I was on the guitar and my friends were supporting my music with excellent lead and backing vocals. We really had fun and also realized that we have some spark in our music so we should probably get together and make something big again! This was a great learning experience for me as i had never performed like this and it definitely boosted my confidence to play guitar in front of people without getting all nervous as before.
Another very important aspect of a student's life is that we all feel homesick when we move away from our parents for the first time and same was the case with me. But it all changed when the DISHA( Drexel Indian Undergraduate Students Association) organized a welcome dhaba night for all the Indian freshmen in Drexel university. We had Indian cuisine after a very long time and also danced to some rocking numbers. There was a large Indian gathering and i felt as if i was back in India. Here i met all my peers and clicked enormous amount of photographs having fun. We all enjoyed the long consumed Indian cuisine! With all the chicken and bhel puri, i got all pumped up again and ready to face 6 of my classes next day!!
Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...
This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.
We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.
That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.
