Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...

This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.

We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.

That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.

Commuter Connection Day

As a commuter, I don't get the opportunity to engage in the numerous social events at Drexel. Thankfully, Drexel university has an entire office dedicated to helping commuters like myself. During the week before school, before residential students moved in, the commuters of Drexel University had the opportunity to engage in Commuter Connection Day. Commuter Connection Day is a great way for new commuters at Drexel to get acquainted and have some fun before school starts. It's a little awkward for students living at home to come to school and make friends with people who already know each other having been forced to share bathrooms and bedroom before classes even start. Thanks to CCD, I knew a few faces on the first day of school and didn't feel completely left out. CCD was an interesting day.
The day started off with breakfast and registration. When we went to register, we were given a Drexel bag filled with information. A ton of free pens and other goodies from various groups were passed out at the activity fair shortly after. The groups were mostly school athletics, but also included a table from SEPTA (the public transportation system used in the city),and  PATCO (New Jersey's public transportation - an easy way to visit Jersey beach).
After figuring out which activities we'd do during the fall term, we were separated by school, (for instance, all the students in the LeBow Business School(a part of Drexel) sat together) and the commuter assistants explained the activities for the rest of the day. There were many different sessions we could attend between breakfast and lunch. Figuring that it was the place I would spend the most time in this fall, I attended the class on the library. I ended up spending less time listening to the librarian who took our group and more time talking to a guy I met while waiting for the librarian. Then we met another guy, and the three of us lost our group. Figuring that it would soon be time for lunch, we walked back towards the hall where lunch would be served. During lunch we were entertained by a hypnotist. The hypnotist got about twenty volunteers and then put them into a trance - like state while the rest of us got a good laugh. At this point, I had to leave, but  I couldn't go before picking up my Dragon Card (Drexel Student ID). So I headed over to the Creese Student Center with my new friends and we all picked up our cards before heading our separate ways. I was happy to have met people during CCD, because all the people I met during orientation are residents at Drexel. I feel a little left out because I don't get to hang out with people I went to school with or met during to orientation as much. I do keep in touch through facebook, but I when I do get a chance to hang out with them, I don't get the inside jokes or know as much as they do about each other since they see each other every day, night and weekend. All in all, ccd was a great way for me to meet the other people that I would be going to school with in a few days.
