One event I attended during my first week at Drexel was the Carnival in the Quad during new student days. There were so many new people I met at the carnival. The carnival had so many activities. There was a tarot card reader, a guy who made key chains, a moon bounce, a Frisbee maker and rock climbing. The quad had caterers too who served all types of food, popcorn and chocolate chip cookies too. My friends and I got our tarot cards read. The lady was dressed up in a fortune teller Halloween costume and asked me to pick from three decks of cards. The one I picked was the goddesses, she started interpreting random cards and starting making up stuff that did not apply to me. It was so wrong, but it was funny at the same time. My friend’s tarot cards turned out the same way. We took a picture and got it made into a keychain. Some of my friends decided to get balloon hats made. It was fun; I met a lot of new people. Eventually the carnival started to get lame so we decided to ditch it and go to UPenn’s campus for Starbucks and to walk around. Then we headed to a friend’s dorm and talked about our different majors and random high school moments. Overall it was fun to meet new people and just chill.
Another event during the week, I went to was the clubs fair and the opening of the DAC. The clubs fair was cool because all the sororities and fraternities were there. My impression of the sororities and fraternities changed because they actually help organizations and around town. Also I looked at dance teams like the Bhangra team and Drexel Jhalak. It was cool seeing some of my old friends from high school that go to Drexel and it was a fun way to get involved and to look at different clubs. Overall the first week has been like high school because we used to do the same things with a club fair to get freshman involved. It is kind of weird to be a freshman again after being an upperclassman in high school and starting over to get used to a new campus, people and classes. College will be a lot of fun though.
Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...
This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.
We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.
That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.
