Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...

This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.

We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.

That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.

First Weekend at College

As the anxiously awaited move in date grew grudgingly closer, the anticipation was killing me.  At this point, most of my friends had been in school for about 2-3 weeks due to the fact that Drexel University kicks off to an exceptionally late start.  September 17th came and went, and I was officially moved in.  I had made it through my first few nights living in a dorm, but had no clue what to expect of my first weekend.

Every year, different committees at Drexel put on events during the first week or so after move-in to incite new students to make new friends in a sober, yet still fun, environment.  I decided to attend one of the events they called 'Casino Night'.  I'm not a gambler, so while this didn't seem too appealing to me, I decided to go with my roommate to meet new people.  Upon arrival, it took me a total of about a minute and a half to reach the conclusion that this was not my scene.  We stayed about 15 or 20 minutes anyway, just meandering around the room, pretending like we were interested.

On our way back to the dorm, we were stopped by a slightly intoxicated fellow asking us if we knew of any good parties.  When we informed him we didn't and were simply heading back to our room, Mr. Tipsy could do nothing but stare at us in disbelief.  He could not seem to comprehend that a couple of freshman would rather stay sober than find a 'good' party.  I kindly told him to have a good night and headed on my way.

Even though we ended up doing nothing but getting to know each other that night my roommate and I had a good time.  We live on the 12th floor of Towers, a residence hall on campus, and had a great time enjoying the various games going on outside until god knows what time.  All-in-all the weekend ended up being very much as I thought it would be: uneventful but fun nonetheless.
