Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...

This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.

We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.

That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.

Facebook: Society’s Guilty Pleasure

Despite numerous claims that Facebook is a place of evil, drama, humiliation, and time wasting, there must be a reason over one hundred million users log on everyday. Maybe it’s thousands of photo albums added daily, which allow you to never feel as if you missed out on a fun night. Or it’s the birthday and event reminders that act as your own personal date book. But most likely Facebook has become such a phenomenon because it feeds on society’s desire to “always be in the know”. With a click of a button, you can check up on your ex-boyfriend or see what your friend did last weekend. Similar to buying a new pair of shoes or a new DVD, indulging yourself in gossip for a little time each day cannot be so bad. Even though Facebook will probably not make the world a better place or make the bully from high school a tiny bit nicer, at least you will never miss your best friend’s birthday.
