Nervousness was the feeling I had as I stepped off of the Septa train at 30th Street Station and started my journey to the Drexel campus for the first time. Nervous that I would not be able to find that first class, that I would be unprepared, and that I would feel alienated from everyone else. As I walked, I saw many freshmen already with huge groups of friends so you can assume this did not help to ease those butterflies I had. I made it to my first and only class for that day, and to my surprise, I made my first friend. Her name was Yuxin, and like me, was having those first day jitters. After discussing what we were going to study at Drexel, where we lived, and what other classes we had for that day we decided it would help us to stick together since we had already started to bond. We sat next to each other for our Foundations of Business lecture and, when that class was over, we walked to the Barnes and Nobles to get some books we needed. We exchanged email addresses and went our separate ways; she had three other classes that day while I was left alone to venture the rest of the campus.
I walked to the Handshumacher Dining Center to grab something to eat and noticed a couple of my friends from high school heading there too. We started to chit chat and planned that we should have lunch together. We got our food, found a table, and talked some more about our first day, the new people we met, our professors, and our summer. So far it seemed like everyone, including me, was enjoying the college life. We finished up our lunch and our talk and said our goodbyes.
I had had a fulfilling day so I walked back to the train station to finally go home. I was satisfied to know that the nervousness I had felt at the beginning of the day was unnecessary. I had found my class just fine and was on time, I was prepared as well as I could be, made a new friend and met some old ones too. I know now that I no longer have to be worried; I will be just fine here at Drexel.
Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...
This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.
We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.
That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.
