Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...

This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.

We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.

That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.

Drexel's Unique Culture

Drexel’s rich and vibrant student body is evidently enhanced by the even more sumptuous culture throughout the city-college campus. Drexel University’s campus is located in the heart of Philadelphia, the sixth major city in the nation. The culture of a city is so diverse as compared to a regular suburb or town. The people located in a city are so diversified, there are many cultures to observe and learn from. Cities have many attractions and incorporate the history of the city itself, and its people. There are so many things to do in a city, from shopping, to eating, and attending various cultural events.
One can learn so much from just wandering about the Drexel University campus and the city of Philadelphia itself. I know my first week at Drexel I gained a great deal of information. Walking around South Street, I was able to breathe in the vast culture and diversity of the city. I walked in a variety of shops that sold unique items from different cultures. I was also able to observe the distinct fashion of the city, taking in the people’s original style. Everyone dresses their own way, and it is very fashion forward. I also learned that day that although the city is an enormous place one can explore for hours, being smart is what keeps you safe. Do travel with a buddy, and always look both ways before you cross the street. Living in a city requires “street smarts,” something I believe I learned the first week living here.
