Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...

This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.

We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.

That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.

Drexel Culture

I believe that the culture of Drexel is actively making us smarter. Beyond the obvious fact that Drexel is an academic university who’s purpose, by definition, is to make its students smarter, Drexel’s culture and activities are also working on making us politically smarter and more active. This is especially important now because of the timing of the upcoming election and also because for many Drexel students, this is their first time voting in a national election. An example of this was the Obama rally and concert that was held over the weekend. I attended this because of Drexel’s Students for a Democratic Society and their involvement with this event. They organized groups to volunteer for the Obama campaign by going door to door and reminding people to register to vote and to come out to the polls on the 4th. Since I volunteered to help with my friends, we all got special volunteer passes to the event and got to see Bruce Springsteen perform from about 100 ft away from the stage. Without Drexel’s support of the election and its student clubs and groups I wouldn’t have gone to this event, which was the first time I have attended any kind of politically oriented event. The Drexel culture makes us smarter by broadening our experiences in addition to classroom learning.
