Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...

This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.

We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.

That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.

The First Experiences

Coming from half way across the country, Philadelphia is like an alien world to me. That said, college in general is like an alien world. And not just to me, but all the freshman here at Drexel. Having many older friends, I've spent weekends in their dorms with them and gone to parties. But it is completely different from actually living it.
My first weekend at Drexel was quite eventful. After getting acquainted with my roommates, whom I adore, we set out to have a good time. We met a lot of guys in our dorm and they escorted us to a few parties. Most were in small houses packed to the max with tons of college students, of all ages. I was in awe of how many people could be crammed in such a small space, yet still appear to be having a fairly good time. After our sequence of party-hopping we headed back to the dorms. The amount of public safety patrolling the streets was surprising, making us feel safer yet slightly alarmed at the same time.
Life in the dorm is so much different than life at home. I had actually never cleaned a dish by hand before, as horrible as that sounds. I've found myself to be much more self-sufficient than I thought I would be. When first coming to Drexel I was terrified of this new chapter of my life beginning, I didn't think I would make it. But after settling in and getting used to things I'm confident I will be just fine.
