Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...

This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.

We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.

That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.

Response to Alarming Events

The essay that I read was Alarming Events. The argument presented in this paper was that people in America are never concerned with problems in other countries. They seem to be “living in a bubble oblivious to the rest of the world.” Although that seems to be true, there is a contradicting argument as well. People in America are actually becoming more alert about the world around them. The war in Iraq has become a major issue in the presidential election. Our country is thinking about places outside of America. Furthermore, the Darfur campaign has become big in the United States as well. More and more people are trying to set up fundraisers to help this place in Africa. Lastly, China is exporting toys to America that contain dangerous chemicals. These chemicals were harming children. The U.S. became involved in this situation right away. Therefore, it is evident that the United States is concerned with problems in countries other than their own.
