A study was done to see the effects on the brain of a heavy marijuana user (smoked 29 days out of the last 30), versus a light user(smoked 1-5 days out of 30). All the subjects were denied marijuana for a day and then standard tests of general intellect (functioning, abstraction ability, sustained attention, verbal fluency, and ability to learn). The results showed that heavy users had greater impairment in attention functions. The question that remains open is whether this impairment is due to a residue of the drug in the brain, a withdrawal effect, or a neurotoxin effect of the drug.
I agree with the text messaging articles on how much easier and faster text messaging is than other forms of communication. Also you can check these messages alot better, than even face to face contact(cause you still have to find the person), and e-mails(as a computer isn't always around). Text messages also allow for a more in-depth conversation with people as they can go on for as long as needed, while both people are otherwise occupied. In no way does the way in which people butcher the English language mean texting is making us dumber Its just simpler, and isn't that what we try to accomplish with new technologies. Easier and easier ways to accomplish task.
Scholarly article are important because they convey a large amount of information, while allow someone to clearly look at all sides of a argument. they are especially useful in the research of a topic.
Welcome to 32nd and Chestnut...
This is the blog for 75 or so Drexel students, most of whom are new to college and new to Drexel.
We'll document the strangeness of college life, try to translate our experience for diverse readers, and chronicle what it means to be a college student during these crazy days of economic turmoil and political battle.
That's it for now; I have to go an play Spore.
