Censorship

In an article from the academic journal Reproductive Health Matters titled "Popline Database Censorship", the issue of censorship is discussed as it relates to the reproductive health database "Popline" and it's blocking of searches of the database using the term "abortion". The US Agency for International Development "had issues" with some articles from an issue of A, the Abortion Magazine, and, because of this, Popline decided to ignore all searches for the word "abortion".

This article is related, through the topic of censorship, to the article "Freedom's Curse" from the publication The Atlantic. Freedom's Curse talks about the irrationality of the FCC's regulations which censor television and radio broadcasts. The article on the Popline database censorship says that Popline removed this censorship once the existance of the block on searches for "abortion" were brought to light. Unfortunately, I do not think that the FCC's regulations will ever be as easy to retract.
