Profanity. Freedom's Curse

The article I chose to read was the “Freedom’s Curse” from The Atlantic. This article talked about how profanity plays a big role in the entertainment world. Profanity is used throughout the world between conversations, but on hearing it on television and radio plays a big role. This article tells us that the government is taking action in the entertainment world of using profanity. Government believes that the use of these curse words are not needed and are not allowed because the audience of a show might be a child. They also describe the complexity of the words meaning. Some curse words are offensive to a group of people and some curse words include a religious name. Imagine a little child hearing these words, next thing you know they will be saying them in school to other students or teachers. So, the FCC stepped in and forbid the use of curse words on television and radio. Even if people think the government should have not stepped in, but they have to because the world can change in a blink of an eye from one curse word. Things can happen and you won’t even know it till it happens.

To agree with this article I read another article which is called “Fox Faces Supreme Test on Profanity.” This article shows a connection with “Freedom’s Curse” because Fox and the FCC have a hearing in court about the use of the f-word and the s-word on FOX channel on television. Fox argues that the FCC has no right to tell them what to do and what words they should use or not. They say that regulators are allowed to change polices but a lower court rules that FCC had been "arbitrary and capricious" in making change because it was not justified successfully. Aside from everything, everyone believes that Fox does not have a chance of winning against the FCC.
