Response to "Thirsty Thursday: Red Solo Cups and Cheap Beer"

This paper was very easy for me to connect to, and really understand where they have formed their questions from. The main questions that I was trying to reason out after I read it was What is the actual point of college? Yes it is a social place. but the main point that we pay 50,000 dollars a year and half a liver is to get an education that will put us ahead of most people. But instead of valuing that, we spend time thinking about where the next party is going to be, and how we look when we get there. Alcohol makes people look stupid. I think the idea of alcohol makes people feel more relaxed. Without the actual effects of the alcohol in the body yet people start to feel mellower, and start to lose their common sense. Most people believe that this is what college is all about. Getting drunk and making decisions that you will regret in the morning. It seems like this person doesn't like the change in "hooking up". But I wonder if the girls demanded that they would getting taken out on a date first before going upstairs with a boy, would the boys go through the traditional dating process. Is it the girls that should be blamed in these situations. They are the ones that spend hours getting ready, they walk upstair with boys, they are the ones that do the mingling. The guys are not to blame, the college girls have just gotten too easy. But us girls are the ones that carry the scars. But who knows if this is a bad way to go about getting relationships. Maybe hook ups will become more. The idea of romance may change to "he filled my cup before everyone else's" Maybe college has to change with the world. Our generation is more open, forward, and progressive. If there is no reason for the bullshit dating, before the hook ups if thats all you want then go get it. The ones that get hurt have them selves to blame.
