Response to 'Ball' Never Sounded Dirtier

In this essay the author questions the "horniness" of society, and how sports lingo is threaded with sexual innuendos. He claims that the terms like ball, stick, score, hit, and league are all sexual terms, and are negatively influencing youth. Yet the author is assuming that the sexual terms originated first. Most likely sports developed their own vocabulary, and sexual slang branched off of that. This still signifies the "horniness" of society, yet disagrees with the fact that this is because of sports. Sports are not negatively affecting society, society is putting sexual connotations into sports. In addition, when families and friends attend sporting events, they are not analyzing the sexual undertones of the game. Unless thoroughly evaluated, it is not common for one to make sexual connections while watching a baseball game. Sports are not negatively affecting youth, they are extremely beneficial to many aspects of a developing persons life.
